EC announced the release of the Natura 2000 Viewer and the availability of the Natura 2000 database in March. Both are now online and available through the EEA website at the following addresses:
Natura 2000 viewer: http://natura2000.eea.europa.eu/
Natura 2000 database: http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/natura-2000/
Both can also be accessed through DG Environment's Nature & Biodiversity website:
http://ec.europa.eu/environment/nature/natura2000/access_data/index_en.htm
Making Natura 2000 data for the first time available at the EU-level, these tools are the result of a fruitful collaboration between the European Commission, the European Environment Agency and its European Topic Centre on Biodiversity and Member States, sharing a common vision on the need for transparency and open data exchange. Future developments for Natura 2000 include the deployment of Web Map Services and Web Feature Services.
We hope that these tools will respond to the public's interest in Natura 2000 and serve as a useful instrument for research, education and outreach.
